A Tile Crew That Takes the Work Seriously
Old Torrance Tile Installer is a small, focused operation. We are based at 1001 W Carson St in Torrance, and we work almost exclusively in the South Bay communities around us: Old Torrance, Harbor Gateway, Carson, and Lomita. That geographic focus is intentional. We know these neighborhoods, and that familiarity makes us more useful to the homeowners who call us.
How We Approach the Work
Tile installation looks straightforward from the outside, but the parts that matter most are invisible once the job is done. Substrate flatness. Mortar coverage. Layout planning before a single tile touches the floor. We spend real time on those steps because they determine whether the surface holds up and looks right five years from now — not just the day we leave.
We use a notched trowel appropriate to the tile format, back-butter large-format pieces individually, and check lippage with a straightedge throughout the install. On wet areas — showers, tub surrounds — we install a proper waterproof membrane before tile goes up. These are not extras. They are the baseline.
What Drives Our Decisions
We care about the quality of the finish. That sounds obvious, but in practice it means we will tell a homeowner when their chosen tile is going to be difficult to keep clean with a small grout joint, or when a wall surface needs more prep than originally scoped. Those conversations are not always easy, but they produce better outcomes for the people living in the space.
Where We Work
Our service area covers Old Torrance, Harbor Gateway, Carson, and Lomita. If you are outside those areas but nearby, call us and we can discuss. Most of our work is residential — kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, and living spaces. We do not take on more jobs than we can do well at the same time.
