Sage Green Square Tile Bathroom in Old Torrance

Bathroom with sage green square wall tiles, wood vanity, and large-format gray floor tiles in an Old Torrance home

About This Project

This bathroom in an Old Torrance home replaced original 1960s ceramic tile with sage green square wall tiles and large-format gray floor tiles. The combination of the matte sage green walls against the warm oak vanity gives the room a calm, grounded character. The wall tile runs from the floor to just above the mirror height, transitioning to painted drywall above — a clean stop line rather than a capped edge. On the shower side, we installed a liquid-applied waterproofing membrane before tiling, paying particular attention to the floor-to-wall corners which are the most common point of water infiltration in shower enclosures. The floor tile in the main bathroom area is a larger format than the wall tile, which keeps the grout grid from feeling busy in a relatively compact space.

What We Did

01
Demoed original tile and drywall, inspected subfloor and framing for moisture damage
02
Installed cement backer board on walls and floor, applied liquid waterproofing membrane in shower zone
03
Set sage green wall tile, coordinating stop height with vanity mirror and medicine cabinet locations
04
Set large-format gray floor tile, grouted everything, sealed grout and caulked all transitions
