Marble-Look Porcelain Staircase in Old Torrance
About This Project
This staircase in an updated Old Torrance home was clad entirely in polished cream marble-look porcelain — both treads and risers — as part of a broader renovation that included matching floor tile on the ground level. Staircase tile is one of the more demanding residential tile applications: each tread needs a bullnose or mitered leading edge so the nosing is smooth underfoot and safe, the risers need to align precisely with the tread joints, and the polished surface requires extra care during installation to avoid scratching. We used a large-format tile on the treads and cut the risers to height, then applied a matching grout throughout so the seam lines are uniform across the full run. The glass railing hardware was already in place; we tiled around the rail posts with tight cuts so there are no visible gaps at the base plates.
