Charcoal Large-Format Bathroom Wall Tile in Old Torrance
About This Project
This primary bathroom in an updated Old Torrance home was tiled with large-format dark charcoal porcelain on the main accent wall behind the freestanding soaking tub. The tile runs floor to ceiling in a horizontal offset pattern, and the recessed niche was tiled to match using smaller cuts of the same material. Large-format tile on walls requires the wall to be plumb and flat to a higher tolerance than smaller formats — we checked and corrected the wall plane before setting a single tile. Each piece was back-buttered individually with large-format mortar, and suction cup tile setters were used to hold the tiles in place during mortar set. The dark grout color was matched closely to the tile body so the joint lines recede visually and the wall reads as a continuous surface.
