Calacatta Marble-Look Kitchen Floor in Carson
About This Project
A kitchen floor replacement in a Carson slab home using large-format Calacatta marble-look polished porcelain. The tile is rectified, which allowed us to keep the grout joint to 1/16 inch — the minimal joint makes the floor read as a nearly continuous marble surface rather than a tiled grid. Carson's concrete slab foundation made this installation particularly clean: the slab was flat within acceptable tolerance and required only minor spot leveling before tile could be set directly on the substrate without additional backer board. The tile format is 24x48, which meant each piece required careful back-buttering and two-person placement to avoid dragging the back edge through the mortar. Expansion joints were cut at perimeter walls and at the transition to the adjacent room, filled with white flexible caulk that matches the grout color.
