Gray Stone-Look Shower Floor with Center Drain in Carson
About This Project
This shower floor in a Carson home was part of a larger bathroom remodel. The floor uses gray stone-look porcelain in a format that is large enough to look clean and minimal but small enough to accommodate the slope to the center drain without awkward cuts. Shower floor installation with a center drain requires sloping the floor from all four sides toward the drain — a 1/4-inch per foot slope is the standard, and it needs to be consistent in all four directions. We built the slope using a pre-sloped foam shower pan, which provides a reliable, consistent pitch without the variability of hand-floated mortar. The drain cover was set flush with the finished tile surface, which requires precise height calculation before the mortar bed goes in. The gray stone-look tile has a subtle texture that provides grip underfoot without being so rough that it is difficult to clean.
