Green Vertical Glazed Tile Bathroom in Lomita

Small bathroom in Lomita with vertical green glazed tiles beside white subway tile over bathtub, black shower fixtures

About This Project

A compact bathroom remodel in a Lomita home that uses two different tiles in the same space: vertical green glazed brick tiles on the vanity accent wall, and classic white subway tile on the tub surround. The two-tile approach works because the tiles are in separate zones with a clear visual boundary between them, and both tiles are installed vertically — so the orientation ties them together even though the color and format differ. The green glazed tiles are stacked vertically (portrait orientation), which draws the eye up and makes the bathroom feel taller than it is. We installed a waterproof membrane behind the tub surround tile before setting the white subway. The backlit round mirror on the green wall was already positioned; we planned the tile layout so the horizontal grout lines run symmetrically relative to the mirror center.

What We Did

01
Demoed existing tile on both walls, installed backer board, applied waterproofing to tub surround zone
02
Laid out vertical green tile centered on mirror, adjusted start point to land symmetrically
03
Set green tiles in vertical stack pattern on accent wall; set white subway vertically on tub surround
04
Grouted, sealed, caulked all wet-zone transitions
